BASIC PURPOSE is to assist LWF and its member churches in promoting the active and meaningful participation of young people in the life, work and decision making of the churches and LWF through advocacy, networking, information sharing, youth leadership training and workshops in line with the established policies and procedures, the recommendations of the DMD Program Committee and the decisions of the Council.

ACT Alliance Launched as New Global Humanitarian Organization

GENEVA, 24 March 2010 (LWI) – The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) has welcomed the creation of the ACT Alliance, one of the world’s largest networks of church and church-related humanitarian relief and development organizations.

In a greeting pronounced at the launch of the ACT Alliance on Wednesday, 24 March, LWF Deputy General Secretary Rev. Chandran P. Martin assured ACT Alliance colleagues of the Lutheran communion’s support and solidarity. The LWF had been instrumental in the formation of the ACT Alliance, he emphasized, and, through its programs and partner organizations, offered the Alliance the largest possible network for its operations.

BANGKOK, Thailand/GENEVA, 7 December 2009 (LWI) – As the ancient prophets challenged the powerful who ignored the cries of the needy, so too must the church today act to dismantle systems that prevent people from getting their daily bread.

This was the central message of the keynote address from Palestinian Bishop Dr Munib A. Younan at the opening of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Asia Pre-Assembly Consultation (APAC) and Asia Church Leadership Conference (ACLC), taking place from 6-9 December in Bangkok, Thailand. LWF President Underscores Focus on Church Witness
MINNEAPOLIS, United States of America/GENEVA, 20 August 2009 (LWI) – The 2009 Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has adopted a social statement on human sexuality, "Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust" with a vote of 676 (66.67 percent) to 338 (33.33 percent). Its adoption on 19 August required a two-thirds vote.

"Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust" is the denomination’s 10th social statement. Social statements assist Lutherans in their moral deliberation, govern the ELCA’s institutional policies and guide the church’s advocacy work. The statement addresses a spectrum of topics relevant to human sexuality from a Lutheran perspective.

GENEVA, Switzerland, 24 January 2008 (LWI) – Representatives of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS) and the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) meeting at the LWF secretariat in Geneva, 21-24 January have affirmed the need to establish direct communication between both organizations in order to mutually benefit from their common heritage in the Reformation.
