Newsletter

The Asia Lutheran News (ALN) workshop from July 26-28 (Bangkok) had come and gone in a flash! Are all our readers expecting a total revamp of the newsletter from this issue onwards? Patience! The workshop has indeed been very beneficial and fruitful but major changes to the AL News will come about only from early next year. This time is needed to work out a long-term plan in order to implement the many good proposals raised at the workshop. During this period of contemplating and planning, we especially look forward to receiving your suggestions, ideas and comments on how to improve this newsletter that was produced specially for all of you in Asia.

Though the lack of news and reactions are constant challenges to the continuation of this newsletter since the start of its production, we are thankful that many of you are beginning to be more active in writing to the AL News. What are we looking for?

The AL News will publish…

  • Brief news on important events / occasions / happenings in your Church or region
  • Information, current affairs and issues relevant to Asia or globally
  • Articles / Stories / Special Feature (about 1½ page of A4 size)
  • Testimonies / Thanksgiving (half a page)
  • Comments and reactions to news, articles, reports, events, etc.
  • Short quotations or statements that are edifying or humorous
  • Letters to the Editor / News Coordinator
  • Photographs of events, pictures and suitable clip arts
  • Others

Except for official liaisons (contact person) chosen by Churches to provide news and information for the AL News, all writings from others pertaining to the Church should receive endorsement from the church leadership before submitting them for publication. This is to ensure the accuracy of news before printing and distribution. Member churches that have not elected a liaison for the AL News are encouraged to do so immediately.

On a personal note

With no prior training or experience in the area of news writing and production, it has been a challenge for me to be assigned the task of producing this bi-monthly newsletter since January this year. Nevertheless, it has been a learning process that is both exciting and enriching. It is now becoming a joy to plan and work on each issue. With good consultants and a newly elected editorial team, with the continuous support and cooperation from member churches, I am sure together we will be able to produce a newsletter that will serve the needs of member churches in Asia better.

With heart-felt thanks to all

Sally
